Fresh hostilities erupted along the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier early on Wednesday, with both parties accusing the opposing side of starting deadly clashes.
The Pakistani armed forces announced that its troops had eliminated "fifteen to twenty Taliban fighters" and wounded numerous others in the Spin Boldak frontier area.
A Taliban government spokesman said that twelve non-combatants had been fatally struck and more than 100 wounded by artillery from Pakistan. He added that numerous military personnel had been killed. Not one of the reported fatalities could be verified by third parties.
Hostilities between the neighbors has escalated since explosions shook Afghanistan last week, which the Afghan capital attributed on Pakistan. The Taliban deny claims that it is sheltering militants targeting Pakistan.
The two sides are not only fighting for the upper hand on the border, but also on digital platforms, attempting to convince the public that their side is inflicting more damage.

A informant in the border area in Afghanistan stated that clashes erupted at around 04:00 local time (11:30 p.m. GMT on Tuesday). Another local in the district, who lives about one kilometre away from the border crossing, reported that "very heavy hostilities persisted for almost five hours".
"I see drones and jets flying over us, some of our relatives are injured," they added.
A medical professional in one of the medical facilities in Spin Boldak stated that he tallied "seven fatalities and 36 wounded transported to the medical center", including males, females and minors.
The situation were "strained" and additional victims were being taken to medical care, he said.
A local Taliban official in the area stated that "numerous of households have been forced to flee since the previous evening due to the intense fighting". He said they were on "high alert" after a several Taliban posts were targeted by aircraft from Pakistan. He further indicated that they had the bodies of two armed forces members.
In a distinct overnight clash on the north-western border, the Pakistani military said that 25 to 30 militant and local insurgent fighters were "believed" to have been killed.
The clashes have led to appeals for de-escalation from foreign nations including Beijing and Russia, as well as a suggestion from US President Donald Trump that he could intervene to facilitate peace.
On that day, Richard Bennett, UN special rapporteur on the conditions of civil liberties in Afghanistan, wrote on a social media platform that he was "very worried" by reports of non-combatant deaths and displacement because of the fighting.
"I urge everyone involved to practice the utmost caution, safeguard civilians, and abide by global regulations," he stated.
Pakistan has long alleged the Taliban authorities of allowing the Pakistan Taliban to function from their territory and fight against the Pakistani administration in an attempt to impose a rigid religion-based system of governance.
The Afghan Taliban government has always denied this.
