Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have encountered numerous entertaining indie games. But, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel jumping adventure features a protagonist that is literally a dung attempting to make its way to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."
How you interact is easy to grasp: just use a single jump button. Across one hundred fifty challenges, battle mini-bosses and visit a market to acquire outfits for your dung hero.
Execute your movements carefully, since one mistake means starting over. Leap off bubbles to propel your character higher, cross disappearing surfaces, and activate switches to open new areas. Gather currency and use them on tougher stages where the action gets crazy.
Visually, the game shows off eye-catching environments and catchy background music. The simple art with morphing abstract forms may remind players of old favorites like Earthbound.
Even though difficult to recall other games where you play as a piece of feces, video games frequently included scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can create grenades from protagonist waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, this theme is present a lot in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its silly concept, Unko Technica has already received significant accolades, including taking top honors at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is ready currently on Steam, with the final release set to debut on computers on November 19.
